Twice the Blessing
Bec and Marissa Karagiorgos, known as the Twice Blessed twins, are taking the term “fashion twinning” to the next level. With over a 100k followers on Instagram and 2.5k YouTube subscribers, their street-style is re-defining the modern-day Christian girl. At the centre of their success, their main objective is to promote their faith as “Ambassadors for Jesus Christ.” HER has the honour of speaking to the twins about God and all things fashion.
STYLE WITH PURPOSE
The beginning of the Twice Blessed journey started when Bec and Marissa finished their Bachelor of Marketing. The 26-year-old twins wanted to share their fashion and style and tips online, which led them to create their Blogspot and Instagram page in 2014.
Their work experience in fashion and social media marketing also allowed them to set up their own social media agency, TB Digital.
From here, they decided to start vlogging in 2016. This allowing viewers to get a better glimpse into their day-to-day lives. Two years later, they have notable collaborations with brands as big as Burberry, Estee Lauder and Dior.
The sisters boldly proclaim that, Twice Blessed, is God-ordained. Neither are shy from sharing their status as Ambassadors for Jesus Christ in their BIO.
“God called us to create Twice Blessed and aptly named it so, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t share our faith. Alongside that, our faith in Jesus as well as a relationship we have with Him, is intrinsically linked to who we are as people. You wouldn’t be able to separate who we are as people or Twice Blessed,” they share.
FAITH IN THE SECULAR
The Australian-born-Greek sisters have had to break down barriers as women of faith in such a secular industry. They have maintained who they are by not allowing the fashion culture to dictate who they are.
“It’s really easy to mimic everyone else’s attitudes or behaviours when you’re around your peers, but we have to intentionally bring people into our space and affect the atmosphere for God’s glory,” they explain.
“Speaking up about people and being positive and uplifting rather than being like everyone else. Alongside that, we’re constantly breaking down stereotypes of what ‘Christians’ look like because we’re normal, humble and genuine. And sometimes people don’t think that relates to Christianity - go figure?”
Both Bec and Marissa are firm believers that their faith has led to successful opportunities along their journey. For them, faith “enables [us] to have direction.”
“There is absolutely no way we would be where we are now if God didn’t firstly call us to it, but secondly, help us every step of the way. It’s crazy owning your own business and not knowing a clear vision of where you want to go, ultimately God’s plans are better than our own anyway and He’s always (ALWAYS) told us the next step at the perfect time.”
This has allowed the sisters to maintain a work-life balance. And both believe that their combined skills are the perfect combination for their business.
“We’re really blessed that God designed us so well together to act like a team. It’s a great balance, and we always say that in our relationship (work and personal) that Bec is the driver and I (Marissa) am the steerer - like a car, we can only get anywhere if we both help each other.”
DRESSED TO INSPIRE
The fruits of their work has enabled them to work and grow together as sisters. But more importantly, having their DM’s and emails inundated with messages of support has been the biggest highlight of their journey.
“Hearing young women inspired by our faith is so special and something we never to ever want to lose the wander of,” they say.
And for them, those who inspire their work are others who speak unashamedly about Christ.
“It’s really hard in this industry to be bold for Christ when it’s so shunned and looked-down upon. So women who are in this industry and absolutely ADORE Jesus, we’re so inspired and proud of.”
One of these inspiring women is, Emma Davenport, who is a presenter and producer on Channel 7 (one of Australia’s main broadcasting channels). For the twins, she is, “a superstar, loves Jesus and is so proud of it, but doesn’t let that stereotype stop her from kicking butt in her job.”
As they continue their journey in the fashion and social media realm, their main message is to remind women that they are, “worthy exactly the way that they are.”
“We are worthy as individuals, desperately loved, and endlessly accepted by Christ. Everyone is beautiful, regardeless of what others or social media says.”
BEC AND MARISSA'S TOP THREE TIPS ON HOW TO GET STARTED AS FASHION BLOGGERS
1) ESTABLISH YOUR PASSION:
Use this to create your blog. If you’re a great illustrator, don’t take photos of a fashion girl – illustrate them
2) FIND A GOOD TEAM:
If you need help writing or taking photos, find a good team of individuals who are willing to work with you and go on the journey together. We’ve been shooting with our Photographer Katie since 2014 and she is one of our best friends now.
3) INVEST IN THE KEY AREAS OF YOUR BLOG:
It’s great to get started on a low cost, but see where the most important (and most revenue making) area of your blog is and invest into it. Maybe it’s buying a good camera or investing your time into having affiliate links and ad bars on your page. Find what’s important for you to grow and invest into it.
